CBI Opens Enquiry against Anurag Kashyap Films, NFDC and Others after a Complaint by I&B Ministry

Anurag Kashyap has denied all allegations.

Anurag Kashyap has landed in troubled waters once again. After a complaint by I&B Ministry, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has opened a preliminary enquiry against Anurag Kashyap Films for allegations such as financial irregularities, as per reports. The enquiry is not just limited to Anurag Kashyap's' company but extends to National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) as well. In fact, companies like Sun TV, UFO Movies are also under probe. The allegations are that some companies were favoured by NFDC for undue excessive funding.

A report by The Print reads, "The CBI’s anti-corruption branch — in a letter dated 23 October 2018, and addressed to the director (finance), NFDC — has said that a preliminary enquiry has been launched against unknown officials of the corporation, Sun TV, UFO Movies, Anurag Kashyap Films and other unknown people."

The news report also reveals the reason for the mentioned enquiry. The I&B ministry submitted a probe request to the CBI after an internal report gathered heat. “There are several observations in the aforesaid report shown therein that violation related to release of advertisements as well as payments,” read a letter by CBI's anti-corruption branch, accessed by The Print. “Major observation was NFDC has released publicity/advertisement spots to channels which were not empanelled with DAVP (Directorate of Audio-Visual Publicity).”

The news report also revealed that tt is also alleged that NFDC paid over Rs 62 lakh to director and producer Kashyap for That Girl in Yellow Boots, violating its own norms, which stipulate that the corporation can only fund a movie as a co-producer. The money was not deposited in a joint account but paid directly to him after the production was completed, the CBI letter added.

Anurag Kashyap has denied all allegations.
