The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, in conjunction with the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, instituted a mandatory requirement in 2012 for films containing smoking scenes to air anti-smoking advertisements before the film's commencement and after the intermission. The initial ad featured Mukesh Harane, a young man who succumbed to cancer due to tobacco consumption. Over time, these ads were updated regularly. In 2018, the CBFC mandated the inclusion of an ad featuring Akshay Kumar and Ajay Singh Pal (Nandu) in films with smoking scenes. However, now, as per Bollywood Hungama, after six years, this popular ad has been discontinued. ‘Emergency’: Makers of Kangana Ranaut-Starrer Agree to Cuts Suggested by CBFC; Bombay HC Closes Case.
