The much-awaited Hollywood superhero film Captain Marvel is finally running in theatres and on day 1 it packed a solid punch at the Indian box office. While the film was touted to do well, it surpassed all the expectations on its opening day by recording two digit figures and becoming the second biggest Hollywood opener after Avengers: Infinity War. Starring Brie Larson in the lead, the film released alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu starrer Badla on Friday, March 8. After garnering rave reviews from the critics, the film obviously got cash registers ringing as well at the domestic BO. Revealing the first-day collection, film trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote on the popular microblogging site Twitter, "#Hollywood scores yet again... #CaptainMarvel takes a Marvel-ous start at the BO... Packs a superb total [double digits] on Day 1... Overpowers *all* titles - new as well as holdover - by a margin... Fri ₹ 12.75 cr... Gross BOC: ₹ 15.18 cr... India biz."
Further, trade portal Boxofficeindia.com also stated, "Captain Marvel had a big opening recording the second highest opening ever for a Hollywood release at around 13 crore nett. The weekend will no doubt be good due to the start but major growth may be difficult for the film as the Hindi and South dubbed audience is unlikely to take to the film. While the newest Hollywood release had stormed the box office in India, Amitabh and Taapsee starrer also fared well on its opening day the ticket windows. Trade experts had predicted an opening of Rs 3- 4 crore from the crime thriller and though it witnessed a low occupancy during the morning shows on Friday, Sujoy Ghosh's directorial venture picked up during the evening and nights shows and ended day 1 with Rs 5. 04 crore.
