Brahmastra: Alia Bhatt Had to Plead to Director Ayan Mukerji to Cast her Opposite Ranbir Kapoor
Recent reports state that Alia Bhatt was not the first choice of director Ayan Mukerji to star opposite Ranbir Kapoor in Brahmastra.
Alia Bhatt entered the year 2019 with a blockbuster hit Gully Boy and received wide popularity for her recent release Kalank, which is touted as one Karan Johar’s most ambitious projects. Now, all eyes are eagerly waiting for the release of her upcoming Ayan Mukerji film Brahmastra, co-starring real-life beau Ranbir Kapoor. Brahmastra has been grabbing headlines ever since the project was announced and fans cannot stop gushing about witnessing the two love birds shed light to their sizzling chemistry on the big screen. However, recent reports state that Alia Bhatt was not the first choice of director Ayan Mukerji. In a conversation with India Today, the Kalank star revealed that she had pleaded Ayan Mukerji to star her opposite Ranbir in Brahmastra. Alia said, “The idea for Brahmastra was conceived long back when Ayan (Mukerji, director) had just done Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. I wanted to work with him and I have always wanted to work with Ranbir as well. I pleaded to Ayan that please cast me with him.” Well, we are glad that Ayan went ahead starring Alia, as the movie marks the beginning of their love story.
Alia further added, “With Ranbir, it is a completely different experience because I have always admired him. He is my favourite actor since he made his debut. He will always remain my favourite because he is so honest and effortless. When I set out to work with him, I was thinking that I will understand his process of acting, but there's no process. He is like me, he acts in front of the camera, and suddenly off camera, he is seen eating chocolates, or chatting, wanting to know what is the gossip of the day. Helmed by Ayan Mukerji, the movie is bankrolled by Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. RK will play the role of a character Shiva aka Rumi aka Artist aka Soldier! Speaking of the memory of taking the star on board for Brahmastra, Ayan had shared, “The absolute first person to have heard about Brahmāstra and the first to have jumped on for the ride! On a writing trip for Yeh Jawaani in May 2011, is where the idea was born... and Ranbir was my very first phone call.” The film is slated to hit the theatres on December 20. The film also stars Amitabh Bachchan, with Alia and Ranbir in the lead.
