When it comes to box office, 2018 has been a great year for Bollywood. We have seen two Rs 300 crore grossers in Sanju and Padmaavat, many big hits in Race 3, Baaghi 2, Sonu Ke Titu Ke Sweety, Raazi, Stree, Satyameva Jayate, Gold, Raid, Veere Di Wedding etc. What's best is that movies with good content are working at the box office, well, mostly. However, while the year had been shining brightly at the theatre counters nearly throughout, we also saw one of the worst opening weekends last week. Navratri Box Office: What the Past Trend Teaches Helicopter Eela, Tumbbad and Jalebi.

Four Bollywood movies came out on October 12, and despite a couple of movies starring big names, none of them managed to create any buzz at the box office. In fact, after the surprise success of Stree, Bollywood box office has been going through a lean phase, with only Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma's Sui Dhaaga making some kind of noise (but even with two big stars in lead, the movie never managed to get to the Rs 100 crore mark). So what happened on October 12? Here's how all the Bollywood releases that came on on this date fared over their opening weekend -

Helicopter Eela

There were high expectations from Kajol's comeback film to Bollywood after a gap of three years and Helicopter Eela should have owned the weekend BO. However, the movie was welcomed with poor reviews, and since it doesn't star a Salman Khan or Tiger Shroff, took a poor opening. In its three-day collection, the movie made Rs 3.05 crore (approx) as per Box Office India. Helicopter Eela Movie Review: Kajol and Riddhi Sen's Feel-Good Drama Suffers From A Bumpy Narrative!

FryDay

Govinda's box office fortunes continue to spiral down, as his latest film, FryDay, was met with a cold response. Even though FryDay was met with comparatively better reviews from his last film, Aa Gaya Hero, it was a non-starter and made approx Rs 1.10 crore over the opening weekend (Box Office India). In comparison to other movies that came out on the same day, FryDay fared the worst. FryDay Movie Review: Govinda, Varun Sharma Try Too Hard To Make Us Laugh in This Cringe-Fest!

Jalebi

The Rhea Chakraborty-Varun Mitra romantic entertainer didn't fare better when it comes to reviews. The lack of pre-release buzz also did the movie in and it only collected Rs 1.65 crore approximately as per Box Office India.

Tumbbad

By far, the best film among the lot and also one of the better Hindi films of the year, Tumbbad, however, failed to create enough buzz for itself at the box office. It showed improving BO collections over the weekend, as it collected Rs 3.25 crore in three days. Word of mouth is strong for the film, so hopefully, it does better in the days ahead.
