On October 2, which also happens to be Gandhi Jayanti, we had two big releases in Indian cinema clashing at the box office. Both the films had superstars headlining the cast, and was made on a humungous budget. From Bollywood, there was War, an action entertainer, that brings two hunky dudes - Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff - together for the very first time. Then from Telugu cinema, we have Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy, an epic period film, starring Megastar Chiranjeevi. The movie also has an ensemble supporting cast featuring popular stars from major film industries like Amitabh Bachchan, Nayanthara, Tamannaah, Kichcha Sudeep, Vijay Sethupathi and Jagapthi Babu.

At the box office, both the movies took on to a terrific start, which was expected. The only question is who, between War and Sye Raa..., took the lead. To understand that, let's look at the collections of each film separatelyWar Movie Review: Hrithik Roshan-Tiger Shroff’s Dynamic Duo and a Thrilling Third Act Make a Deadly Combo in This Action Thriller.

War broke many records in Bollywood when it earned Rs 53.35 crore on Day 1. With such earnings, it has earned the title of being the highest box officer opener for a Bollywood film, beating Aamir Khan's Thugs of Hindostan in the process. Interestingly, both the films were produced by Yash Raj Films. The collections are inclusive of all languages in which the movie has been released. War Box Office Collection: 5 Records Hrithik Roshan-Tiger Shroff's Action Entertainer Breaks Effortlessly.

Now let's talk about Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy's collections. Here's where things get a little dicey. With trade analysts like Taran Adarsh only giving out box office collections of only the Hindi versions of South movies, we have to depend on various other sources to get the proper domestic collections for Sye Raa.... A problem that is not just restricted to this Chiranjeevi film, but also to any South movie. Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy Movie Review: A Larger-Than-Life Chiranjeevi Towers Over This Patriotic Saga That Suffers From Excesses.

Anyway, we sourced our information from Andhra Box Office for Sye Raa's collections, and it turns out the movie has earned Rs 60.6 crore on Day 1 in its domestic collections. This is inclusive of all languages.

In Andhra Pradesh/Telangana, the film, produced by Ram Charan, earned Rs 47.3 crore. Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy's collections in other territories come up to Rs 13.3 crore.

So if we go by these collections, well, it looks like Chiranjeevi's period saga did beat down the combined might of both Hrithik and Tiger. Overseas too, both the films are having a very tough competition too. It remains to be seen which film will turn out to be a bigger grosser, though, for the fans, both Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy and War are winners!
