The year 2024 has been strange for Bollywood. The highest-grossing movie of the year - Siddharth Anand's Fighter - that nearly touched Rs 200 crore at the domestic box office is not seen as a pure hit. Six months down, we still don't have a film that created or broke records at the box office, though there were several hits like Shaitaan, Munjya, Article 370, Crew, Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya among them. Three small films, Madgaon Express, Laapataa Ladies and Srikanth, found themselves becoming profitable while enjoying an extended run at the box office. However, Bollywood has also had many failures at the box office in the past six months. Biggies like Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Maidaan, Mr & Mrs Mahi, and even the recent Chandu Champion have not been able to draw in the crowds, even though some of them got good reviews.
So which film worked and which didn't at the box office? Check them out below. While SRK, Salman and Ranbir are skipping 2024, at least for the lead roles, let's hope the presence of other stars in movies coming out in the next six months might hope for a better report card at the box office, with biggies like Singham Again, Stree 2, Sitaare Zameen Par, Bhool Bhulaiya 3, Sarfira, still to come.
