One of Bollywood's popular singers and composers who belted some superhit numbers in the 80s and 90s, Mohammad Aziz aka Munna Bhai passed away at Mumbai's Nanavati hospital today. As per the reports of the leading media house, Aziz breathed his last today after he was admitted to Nanavati hospital. It is also reported that the singer was in Kolkata last week and flew to Mumbai on Monday as he was not keeping well. Today, he breathed his last and his daughter Sana informed about Aziz leaving for the heavenly abode.
It would be pertinent note that Aziz has given his mellifluous and distinguished voice to superstars such as Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda. After making his film debut in a Bengali language film Jyoti, Aziz came to Mumbai in the mid 80s. He first sang for a Bollywood movie called Ambar which was released in the year 1985.
After coming to the island city Aziz broke into the world of showbiz by a pure chance. It was famous music composer Anu Malik got him to sing the song Mard Taangewala for the movie Mard that starred Bollywood's Baadshah Amitabh Bachchan and Amrita Singh. Aziz became a popular singer post the sucess of this number, and was patronised by leading music directors including Kalyanji-Anandji, Laxmikant-Pyarelal, Rahul Dev Burman, Naushad, O. P. Nayyar, Bappi Lahiri, Rajesh Roshan, Raamlaxman, Ravindra Jain, Usha Khanna, Anand-Milind, Nadeem-Shravan, Jatin Lalit, Anu Malik, Damodar Raao, Anand Raj Anand and Aadesh Shrivastava.
Aziz has also performed stage shows in India and abroad, and has been nominated twice for best male playback singer award. Mohd. Aziz was very close to Laxmikant Pyarelal; After Laxmi-Pyare, his career went down and other music directors took to other singers such as Kumar Sanu, Udit Narayan.
He has done playback singing for famous actors such as Amitabh Bachchcan, Govinda, Rishi Kapoor, Mithun chakraborty and several others. In Bollywood, his duets with leading female singers like Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle, Anuradha Paudwal and Kavita Krishnamurthy are immensely popular. The popular singer has sung close to 20 thousand songs in more than 10 different Indian languages. Ha has recorded hundreds of devotional Bhajans and Sufi songs as well.
