Mumbai, January 5: With an aim to garner support for the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the Narendra Modi government on Sunday invited Bollywood celebrities for dinner meet in Mumbai. Union Minister Piyush Goyal and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) vice-president Jay Panda hosted the dinner meet. However, government's Bollywood outreach met with stiff resistance. Anti-CAA protesters staged demonstration against the government outside Mumbai's Grand Hyatt Hotel. Protesters were holding placards with anti-government slogans. Kunal Kohli, Abhishek Kapoor, Prasoon Joshi, Anu Malik, Urvashi Rautela and Vipul Shah were present at the event.

The invitation was sent to Bollywood celebs on January 3. Bollywood seemed to be divided on the controversial act. Celebrities like Anurag Kashyap, Swara Bhasker, Nikkhil Advani, Farhan Akhtar and Richa Chadda openly criticised the act. Meanwhile, several other celebrities like Ayushmann Khurrana, Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn chose not to speak in favour or against the act, but they urged the protesters not to use violence while protesting.
