Bijou Thaangjam Slams ‘Racist’ Alia Bhatt Fans for Trolling Him After Actor Accused ‘Jigra’ Team of Racial Discrimination on Social Media
Bijou Thaangjam had claimed that the casting team of 'Jigra' failed to respond to his communication and left him in the dark after he was selected for a role in the movie. This, he says, is the 'reality' of actors like him from Northeast of India.
A couple of days ago, actor Bijou Thaangjam posted a note on his social media accounts where he claimed he received indifferent treatment from the makers of the recent release, Jigra. Linking this alleged attitude to his Northeast ethnicity, Thaangjam accused the team of showing racial discrimination towards artistes from the region. The Manipur-born actor stated that the makers ghosted him for months after he was selected for a role in the movie following a formal audition process. Jigra was directed by Vasan Bala and produced by Karan Johar under his banner, Dharma Productions. Alia Bhatt played the lead role in the movie. ‘Jigra’: Bijou Thaangjam Accuses Makers of Alia Bhatt-Starrer of Discrimination Against Northeast Artistes.
After raising this issue for public awareness, Bijou Thaangjam now claims he has been the target of several racist attacks from Alia Bhatt's fans following his earlier statement. He has posted a new note, in which he slams these 'fans' and urges them to "get a life." He also highlighted the irony of receiving racial abuse while speaking out against racial discrimination.
He wrote, "The irony is truly remarkable. I speak up about discrimination, and suddenly I'm met with a flood of racist and discriminatory remarks. Bravo, well done. It's almost like your pea-sized brain can't grasp the concept of equality. But hey, some things never change, right? No wonder people from the Northeast are treated so poorly by some in mainland India. I'm as much, if not more, Indian than you'll ever be, but sure, keep living in that bubble." ‘Jigra’ Movie Review: Alia Bhatt’s Committed Performance Helps Vasan Bala’s Prison-Break Thriller Sail Through Its Hiccups.
Reiterating the message he intended to convey in his previous post, Thaangjam added, "As an artist and actor, I have the utmost respect and gratitude for my fellow creatives. What I criticised was the flawed system, the hierarchy, and the terrible management. But to all the die-hard Alia Bhatt fans, bhakts and fanatics, please do me a favour: get a life. Your racist and derogatory comments only prove how small you are as a person."
