Bhumi Pednekar has had the opportunity to star in content-driven movies since the beginning. She started off her career with Dum Laga Ke Haisha, then followed it up with movies like Toilet - Ek Prem Katha, Shubh Mangal Savdhaan Lust Stories and Sonchiriya. All have been the kind of movies that had an author-backed role for her. Goes without saying, that Bhumi is breaking stereotypes. When asked about the same, the bubbly actress told Femina, "It’s a great compliment to my work. It’s good to be a part of cinema that has tried to bring about change," Bhumi Pednekar Wears Karl Lagerfeld Printed Tee, Pays Tribute to Fashion Legend: See Bhumi’s Latest Airport Look in Pics.
Though Bhumi added the real people who should be credited for her journey are the writers and directors. "I may be breaking stereotypes, but the real heroes are the writers and filmmakers who have made me a part of their films. I think there’s been a shift in power where films are concerned; from actors, the power has come back to writers and directors, and that’s how it should be,"
Bhumi said that this is how our film industry can flourish. "I feel extremely honoured that these storytellers felt like I could do justice to their stories," she said.
We are most certainly on the same page when it comes giving back the power to writers and directors. There was a time when Salim-Javed would be paid half the price of what a mainstream hero was being paid, as per Hindustan Times. Somewhere along the years, the movie became solely hero-driven and the writers, directors, and even the heroines took a backseat. We hope the new air changes the industry for good.
