Bhavesh Joshi Superhero: Did You Know Vikramaditya Motwane had Once Shelved Harshvardhan Kapoor-starrer Because of BJP?
When director Vikramaditya Motwane initially planned to make the movie a couple of years back, he initially wanted Imran Khan to play the lead role.
Bhavesh Joshi Superhero has caught the attention of Bollywood fans with its intriguing posters, teaser and the recently launched trailer. It's Bollywood latest attempt to foray into superhero territory following Hrithik Roshan's Krrish and Shah Rukh Khan's Ra.One. Since we are already in the mania of Avengers Infinity War, there is no better timing for Bhavesh Joshi Superhero to arrive. However, the lead character, played by Harshvardhan Kapoor, doesn't possess any superhero skills - he is a vigilante who dons a mask and has some sophisticated weaponry. Moreover, Harshvardhan Kapoor was not even the first choice to play the role too.
When director Vikramaditya Motwane initially planned to make the movie a couple of years back, he initially wanted Imran Khan to play the lead role. However, Imran Khan's deteriorating box office power made the makers look at Sidharth Malhotra as the hero. This was in 2014.
However, there was no progress on the movie after that. When PTI had spoken to Motwane then, he said the movie has been shelved. The reason might shock you - it was because BJP came to power beating Congress in the 2014 elections. Motwane had said then that corruption was high during the Congress regime, and therefore, he had set the movie keeping this in mind. However, with the change in power, the script didn't make sense.
Speaking to PTI, Motwane had said, "Bhavesh Joshi is not happening (then). I think time has changed. It was a film, which I wrote at the peak of the Congress government and about all the things that were wrong then, not that everything is right, right now. But I feel when the context changes, it is very difficult to go back to the script. It requires rewrite, you have to go the scratch, you can't change things in pieces."
But when Harshvardhan Kapoor was all set to make his debut with Mirzya, Motwane suddenly announced making Bhavesh Joshi with the young actor? So what happened here? Did Motwane feel that corruption hasn't changed even after BJP's ascension to power? Or has he set the movie before 2014? We will know the answers when the movie comes out on May 25.
