One of the best things about the most recent blockbuster, Sanju, is the friendship between Sanjay Dutt and his US-based friend, Kamlesh aka Kamli. While his romances and even his marriages take a backseat (or are ignored completely), Dutt's bonding with Kamli gives viewers some heartfelt moments. It also helps that Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal, who plays Kamli, are excellent in their performances. While Ranbir has become the toast of the town post-Sanju, Vicky Kaushal has also been garnering enough praise for his Gujarati act.
While Vicky has been getting good reviews for his earlier movies like Masaan, Raman Raghav 2.0, Raazi, Lust Stories, it is with Sanju that made people realise that he can even overshadow his senior co-stars with his performance. And Ranbir and he look like they are friends even in life. But did you know their connection goes way back to Vicky's first movie as an adult (he had also played Kunal Kapoor's teen avatar in Luv Shuv Tey Chicken Khurana)?
Even though it is popularly considered that the Cannes darling, Masaan, is his debut, actually it is Bombay Velvet that happens to be Vicky Kaushal's first role. He plays a cop in the movie, while his Sanju co-stars Ranbir and Anushka Sharma play the main leads. It is also his small role in this movie, that gave some award functions an excuse to ignore his performance in Masaan to award Sooraj Pancholi the Best Debutant Award for Hero that year.
In 2018, Vicky Kaushal displayed his comic streak in the delightfully entertaining Love Per Square Foot, that came out straight on Netflix. If you have not watched this little gem, you would have missed on a cute little cameo from Ranbir Kapoor, who appears towards the end of the movie. Just like he did in PK.

Here's hoping that we get to see Ranbir and Vicky in a few more movies.
