Shahid Kapoor's Batti Gul Meter Chalu is turning out to be an average grosser at the box office. The movie, despite being the most commercial of all September 21 releases, has failed to capitalise on that and earn a big opening weekend. Batti Gul Meter Chalu is directed by Shree Narayan Singh and also stars Shraddha Kapoor, Divyendu Sharma and Yami Gautam in important roles. At the box office, as the movie completes its four-day run, Batti Gul Meter Chalu has performed below expectations at the box office. As per trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the movie has collected Rs 26.42 crore at the box office. He had tweeted, "#BattiGulMeterChalu Fri 6.76 cr, Sat 7.96 cr, Sun 8.54 cr, Mon 3.16 cr. Total: ₹ 26.42 cr. India biz. #BGMC". Considering the movie has two big leads in Shahid and Shraddha, these collections are not up to the mark. Shahid Kapoor is coming after the Rs 300 crore blockbuster hit in Padmaavat, while Shraddha had just scored a Rs 100 crore hit in Stree (which still continues to draw the audiences in theatres). Also, the director himself had given a big hit with his debut film last year - Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar's Toilet Ek Prem Katha. So expectations were high from Batti Gul.
