Batla House Box Office Collection Day 1: John Abraham's Action Thriller Fares Well Despite Competition From Mission Mangal, Mints Rs 14.59 Crore
If Batla House manages to perform well today then it could register a solid opening weekend figure. The movie opened to mixed reviews from the critics but if it impresses the audience then John Abraham may well have another hit to his credit.
Apart from Akshay Kumar's multi-starrer film Mission Mangal, John Abraham's Batla House also arrived in cinema halls yesterday. Directed by Nikhil Advani, the action thriller based on the controversial Batla House encounter case was expected to do well despite clashing with Akki's space drama at the Indian box office. And that's exactly what has happened. As predicted, John starrer didn't take a massive opening but it collected Rs 14.59 crore at the ticket windows on Thursday which is quite impressive. In fact, the movie had a decent start on August 15 but it did really good business during the evening and night shows and hence ended up raking in a good amount of moolah. Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to the microblogging site Twitter a while back and revealed the first day numbers. He tweeted, "#BatlaHouse fares well on Day 1, although the numbers are affected due to the clash... Gathered momentum post noon onwards... #IndependenceDay holiday gave its biz additional push... Will need to score from Fri-Sun... Thu ₹ 14.59 cr. India biz."
Talking about the film's performance, Boxofficeindia.com has reported, "The 14 crore nett plus total would actually be a good total if it was not a holiday but it should have done more considering that Satyameva Jayate did almost 20 crore nett last year. The difference between Batla House and that film was the smaller multiplex and single screens business in Maharashtra, Nizam, and CP/CI. Satyameva Jayate had done very well in these parts while Batla House is so so." Batla House Movie Review: John Abraham’s Real-Life Based Thriller Is Too Convoluted and Long to Make an Impact
"The film still has chances and if it can hold up well today then it can have a decent run as there are two open weeks for the film to do its business."
Interestingly, Batla House is John's second-biggest opener after Satyameva Jayate which also released on Independence Day last year alongside Akshay starrer Gold.
