Sujoy Ghosh's latest offering Badla seems to be wooing the audience big time. The film, which has brought back the terrific jodi of Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu on the big screen, released on March 8 and got off to a slow start during the morning shows. However, the crime thriller picked up in the evening and then went on to rake in Rs 5.04 crore on day 1. On Saturday, Badla witnessed a big jump in its collection and the scenario was pretty much the same on Sunday as well. In fact, the film is turning out to be a success at the box office which isn't too surprising. Badla Box Office Collection Day 1: Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu's Crime Thriller Beats Opening Day Record of Pink, Mints Rs 5.04 Crore.
Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to the micro blogging site Twitter a while back and announced the updated figures. He wrote, "#Badla is a success story... Glowing word of mouth converts into footfalls, consolidates its BO status... Metros/multiplexes splendid... Tier-2 cities join the party on Day 2 and 3... Fri 5.04 cr, Sat 8.55 cr, Sun 9.61 cr. Total: ₹ 23.20 cr. India biz. Gross BOC: ₹ 27.38 cr."
He also tweeted, "#Badla day-wise growth... Sat [vis-Ã -vis Fri]: 69.64% Sun [vis-Ã -vis Sat]: 12.40%... Affected due to the cricket match. Wonderful trending on weekend ensures solid hold on weekdays [at metros/multiplexes]. India biz."Â Badla Box Office Collection Day 2: Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu's Film Has a Fantastic Saturday, Grosses Rs 16.03 Crore.
Apart from raking in big moolah at the ticket windows, Ghosh's film also surpassed the opening weekend collection of Pink and 102 Not Out. Talking about the same, Adarsh tweeted, "#Badla has surpassed *opening weekend* biz of #Pink and #102NotOut... 2019: #Badla ₹ 23.20 cr, 2016: #Pink ₹ 21.51 cr, 2018: #102NotOut ₹ 16.65 cr. India biz."
After creating good pre-release buzz, Big B and Pannu's second film together opened to rave reviews from the critics last Friday. The film was also lauded on social media and that only helped in spreading the positive word of mouth further. Though Badla wasn't a solo release as Hollywood superhero flick Captain Marvel also arrived in theaters the same day, it still managed to draw the audience and got cash registers ringing. And going by the film's performance till now, it won't be long before Badla reaches the Rs 50 crore mark at the Indian box office.
