Dharma Productions' latest romcom, Bad Newz, has taken off to a good start at the box office. The film, directed by Anand Tiwari, has collected INR 30.62 crore in India. Bad Newz stars Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri, and Ammy Virk in the lead roles and caught the attention of fans thanks to its colourful trailers and songs. Kaushal's steps in "Tauba Tauba" have even turned into a viral trend, with celebrities and commoners trying to replicate his moves. Jai Hops On to Vicky Kaushal’s Viral ‘Tauba Tauba’ Challenge Alongside Vriddhi Vishal and You Can’t Miss the Ending; Video Goes Viral – WATCH.

Speaking of Vicky Kaushal, Bad Newz has become his third-highest opening weekend grosser, standing behind Uri – The Surgical Strike (INR 35.73 crore) and Raazi (INR 32.94 crore). Raazi went on to make INR 123.84 crore at the Indian box office and was declared a super hit, though the film's success was credited to its female lead and main draw, Alia Bhatt. Uri – The Surgical Strike, where Vicky Kaushal took the lead, became his highest-grossing film at the Indian box office, earning INR 245.36 crore.

Is 'Bad Newz' a Hit or a Flop?

At the time of writing this article, on the first Monday after the film's release, Bad Newz had earned INR 49.85 crore worldwide. The film was reportedly made on a budget of INR 75 crore and needs to gross more than INR 90 crore to be declared a hit. If Bad Newz trends well over the week and sustains itself through the next weekend, there is nothing stopping it from being a successful venture for all involved and turning itself into a box-office hit. ‘Bad Newz’ Box Office Collection Day 3: Vicky Kaushal, Triptii Dimri and Ammy Virk’s Rom-com Garners INR 30.62 Crore in India.

However, one thing to note is that Bad Newz has not seen a fabulous rise in its collections contrary to what trade analysts were predicting before the film's release. From Vicky's box office perception, Bad Newz gave the National Award-winning actor his highest opener, earning INR 8.62 crore when it had released in theatres on 19 July 2024. Even Raazi (INR 7.53 crore) and Uri (INR 8.20 crore) collected lesser figures on their opening days. However, these two movies showed better trending on Saturday and Sunday, leading to elevated collections in the opening weekend.

As for Bad Newz, the movie did show increased collections on Saturday and Sunday, but they weren't up to expectations, especially for a film that had a bigger buzz pre-release. There could be two reasons for this: first, the movie received mixed responses from both critics and viewers post-release. Secondly, many cities in India have been facing heavy rainstorms, particularly in Mumbai, and Bad Newz has been perceived more as a multiplex-favouring film. ‘Bad Newz’ Movie Review: Vicky Kaushal Is on ‘Govinda’ Mode in This Hackneyed Romcom Co-Starring Triptii Dimri and Ammy Virk.

Challenges Ahead for 'Bad Newz'

The best way to determine whether a movie will trend positively or negatively at the box office is to see its first Monday collections. For Bad Newz, this will be a significant determinant in its box office verdict. The upcoming Friday also benefits the film—there is no major Hindi release arriving that day. However, Bad Newz could face its toughest competition in the multiplexes from Hollywood's Deadpool & Wolverine.

Watch the Trailer of 'Deadpool & Wolverine':

Deadpool & Wolverine, directed by Shawn Levy, is the first and only film to come out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2024. Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool is a popular character, and what's more, the movie is bringing back another popular character (from the dead, this time) in Hugh Jackman's Wolverine. Additionally, these two characters are making their entry into the MCU, and fans are curious to see how that will work out. Also, Deadpool & Wolverine is reported to have plenty of cameos, including some from past X-Men films and MCU movies.

Can Bad Newz survive the onslaught of Deadpool & Wolverine and emerge as a hit? Let's wait and watch!
