August 5, 2019 will go down in the history books for it was the day when the Modi Government, which is in its second term, revoked Article 370 of the Indian constitution that granted special provisions to the state of Jammu & Kashmir. Home Minister Amit Shah announced in the Rajya Sabha that Article 370 has been revoked from Jammu and Kashmir.ย Shah also introduced the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Second Amendment) Bill in Rajya Sabha. The bill, approved by the Union Cabinet last week, paves way for the implementation of the 10 per cent quota for Economically Weaker Section (EWS) in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.ย Article 370 Revoked From Jammu and Kashmir, Amit Shah Makes Historic Announcement Proposal in Parliament While Introducing J&K Reservation Second Amendment Bill

However, many suspected the move even before it actually happened, because starting Thursday (August 1, 2019) Amarnath Yatra tourists and non-Kashmiri students were asked to leave the state. Not only did that move add to turmoil in the state, but also, the house arrests of previous CM's Omar Abdullah (National Conference) and Mehbooba Mufti (Peopleโ€™s Democratic Party), along with internet services being cut off, led to more unrest in the valley. Also, the implementation of Section 144 in Srinagar on Sunday (August 4, 2019), fueled tensions in the state.
