Article 15: Here's What Censor Board Found Objectionable in Ayushmann Khurrana's Controversial Cop Drama

After tackling animosity against Muslims in Mulk, director Anubhav Sinha delves into more controversial themes with his new movie, Article 15. A cop drama, Article 15 has Ayushmann Khurrana play a police officer for the very first time. On the lines of the Hollywood thriller, Mississippi Burning, the Hindi movie has Ayushmann's city cop come to a village to investigate the murders of two Dalit girls and gets a taste of reality on how caste discrimination has seeped into our society. The movie's title takes after an article in our Constitution that condemns discrimination, based on caste, creed and religion. Considering how such films have fared in the past, it is expected that Article 15 will also see some hate from certain sections of the viewers. The bigger question, though, will the film be passed by the Censor Board (who are in quite a good, forgiving mood these days.... see Kabir Singh). Well, CBFC seems to have given their blessings to Article 15 with only a few minor changes. A scene involving the burning of the National Flag has been removed, and certain cuss words have been modified. Some violent scenes have also been trimmed.
The movie has also been passed with a U/A rating. The runtime of the film has been revealed to be 130 minutes. This means that Article 15 can have a clean release on June 28.
