Arshad Warsi is caught in the eye of the stormy controversy after he told in an interview how he didn't like Kalki 2898 AD and how the movie presented its lead star, Prabhas, like a 'joker'. Prabhas' fans took to social media to troll the Jolly LLB actor, and some entertainment journalists and actors found his remarks disparaging. In the same interview, Arshad Warsi also spoke about a movie he hated working on, which was one of his beloved performances outside the Munnabhai franchise. We are talking about Priyadarshan's 2004 film Hulchul, which also had Akshaye Khanna, Kareena Kapoor, Suniel Shetty, Paresh Rawal, Arbaaz Khan and Jackie Shroff. Arshad Warsi Gets Trolled After Calling Prabhas ‘Joker’ for His Role in ‘Kalki 2898 AD’; Here’s How Netizens Reacted to His Statement!

Arshad Warsi played the best friend of Akshaye Khanna's lead protagonist, who was responsible for some of the funniest scenes and dialogue in the movie. However, Arshad Warsi was not happy with his role in the movie, which he made evident when it came out in 2004. The actor even refused to promote the comedy then.

While speaking on the YouTube podcast Unfiltered by Samdish, the host asked him why his eyes were often referred to as mendak ki aankhen frequently in Hulchul, even though the actor's eyes were hardly that. While dismissing that joke, Warsi reveals he felt he was a good actor while working in Hulchul, yet he didn't enjoy his time in the movie.

Arshad claimed that during the narration, the late writer Neeraj Vora, who had penned the screenplay for Hulchul, presented him with a different perspective. Arshad was told that Hulchul would be like Hera Pheri, whose role is like that of Akshay Kumar in that movie: a troublemaker who keeps needling everyone and even has a heroine. Even though it was a brief narration, Arshad claimed it was enough to convince him to be part of HulchulSudheer Babu Slams Arshad Warsi for Negative Remarks on Prabhas’ Performance in ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, Says ‘It’s Never Okay to Bad-Mouth’.

However, while on the set, he realised he was not the parallel lead, as Akshay was in Hera Pheri, but rather the hero's sidekick. He was also disappointed with his wardrobe for the movie, so he brought in his own clothes for his character. Arshad then tells the host that he found himself a good actor because he didn't allow his inner anguish to be shown on screen.

If only Arshad Warsi had watched the original 1991 Malayalam film Siddique-Lal's Godfather before saying yes to Hulchul, perhaps he wouldn't have been in this quandary. Warsi played the same role that Jagadeesh had in the Malayalam movie, and his character Mayinkutty remains beloved by many movie lovers in Kerala.

While Warsi never worked with Priyadarshan after Hulchul, he did play the antagonist in Neeraj Vora's fourth directorial, Shortkut: The Con Is On in 2009. Again, It was a remake of a Malayalam film - Roshan Andrrews' Udayananu Thaaram - and had Akshaye Khanna in the lead. Interestingly, a year after Hulchul, Arshad Warsi had played Salman Khan's best friend in the David Dhawan comedy, Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya?. Wonder what made him agree to be a part of this movie.
