Vegetarianism is a popular way of life that revolves mostly around eating plant-based food and dairy, while shunning products of animal slaughter completely. While Indian society has always been vegetarian , many B-Town celebrities have been openly supporting the vegan/vegetarian cause these days. For them, vegetarianism is a way to not only lead a healthy life but also to support the cause of animal rights. Various Bollywood celebrities, in the recent times, have given up on non-vegetarian food and opted to become vegan or vegetarian.
Anushka Sharma is the latest celebrity to join the list of B-Town vegetarians. She took to Instagram to share this decision with her fans. Like several other celebrities, Anushka also decided to go the vegetarian way after being associated with People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). A few other Bollywood celebrities also opted for vegetarianism recently -
Anushka Sharma
Calling it the "best decision of her life" Anushka Sharma, now associated with PETA, took to Instagram to announce her decision to turn vegetarian. Anushka also has a pet dog named Dude, with whom she has made many videos and posts in the past to deliver the message of animal welfare. For instance, she took to social media during Diwali 2017, appealing to people for a cracker-free Diwali. She highlighted the need to be sensitive to the animals who cannot speak of the trauma they go through during the festival.
John Abraham
Bollywood actor John Abraham has also been associated with PETA for quite some time. He is an animal lover and a perfect motivation for fitness freaks who think its difficult to build a body without meat proteins.
Esha Gupta
Esha Gupta is a vegan since 2015, which means that apart from meat products, she has also given up on dairy. Like Anushka, the actress has also been associated with PETA.
Shahid Kapoor
Shahid Kapoor's story to turn vegetarian is quite interesting. His father Pankaj Kapoor gited him the book Life Is Fair, which prompted Shahid to take the decision to go veg. Shahid also featured in some of PETA's ad campaigns and was given the title of "Asia's sexiest vegetarian man" in 2011 by PETA.
Alia Bhatt
Following the footsteps of her father, Mahesh Bhatt, Alia Bhatt also turned vegetarian after her association with PETA. Alia was honoured her with the title of PETA India's Hottest Vegetarian Celebrity in 2017.
Sonam Kapoor
Bollywood's style diva Sonam Kapoor is a vegan. She has been associated with PETA and was titled the Hottest Vegetarian for 2016 by PETA India. She is an active supporter of animal rights and encourages adoption of animals. In 2017 she went on to become a vegan from vegetarian. She also posts vegetarian recipes and dishes on her social media handles sometimes.
Sonakshi Sinha
Sonakshi Sinha who is a staunch supporter of animal rights turned vegetarian to further express her love for the cause. She also admitted to losing weight after opting for vegetarianism.
Kangana Ranaut
Kangana Ranaut is another Bollywood star to be associated with PETA. She was a vegetarian until 2015 when she gave up on diary products and became vegan. She said dairy products were giving her problems like acidity, so she chose to go the vegan way and start living a healthier lifestyle.
Rajkumar Rao
He was also titled the Hottest Vegetarian Celebrity in 2017 by PETA India. Although the actor had voluntarily opted for vegetarianism, he was forced to eat meat for a scene in his 2016 film Trapped.

Bollywood's perfectionist also opted for a perfect diet by switching to veganism. His wife, Kiran Rao, who was already a vegan, influenced him to opt for the lifestyle. The actor who had always been vocal about his love for biriyani admitted that he is now a vegan.
Jacqueline Fernandez
Jacqueline Fernandez is actively involved in fitness and follows a healthy diet regime. She opted for vegetarianism. Her restaurant in Mumbai also has a wide range of healthy food options.
Amitabh Bachchan
Amitabh Bacchan is also associated with PETA and has been titled the hottest vegetarian multiple times. The actor sticks to a healthy lifestyle by not eating any kind of meat and doesn't even drink or smoke.
