Anurag Kashyap’s Next With Bhumi and Taapsee Titled ‘Saand Ki Aankh’; the Director Slams Pritish Nandy for the Title Rights Dispute
Bhumi Pednekar and Taapsee Pannu's next titled Saand Ki Aankh and not Womaniya.
Earlier in the day, we were informed about Bhumi Pednekar and Taapsee Pannu's next project with Anurag Kashyap. The movie that revolves around the life of the world's oldest sharpshooters, Chandro, 87 Tomar and her sister-in-law Prakashi Tomar, 82, finally gets a title in Saand Ki Aankh. The ladies hail from Uttar Pradesh`s Johri village and they reportedly took up sharpshooting in their 50s. While the project sounds damn interesting and intriguing, makers had a specific title in their minds, the one that was already registered by Pritish Nandy's production house. Kashyap reached out to the filmmaker to request him to release the same title but his efforts went in vain. Anurag took to his Twitter account to slam Pritish Nandy for demanding Rs 1 crore to release the film's title. According to the Bombay Velvet director, that was extortion of some sorts and he wasn't ready to go ahead with it. He blasted Nandy saying, So we have decided to not pay the extortion sum of 1 crore to @PritishNandy. He can sit on the title and warm it and hope for it to hatch into something worthwhile for his company for once. The ones who are wondering about the original title, well it was Womaniya. While the actresses were always on board, the project then faced some monetary crunch and reports of it getting shelved started surfacing. However, the team today sounds determined and the shooting of which will start on February 10. Earlier in an interaction with Mumbai Mirror, Anurag elaborated on the same issue and said, "I don’t even know if it’s legal to do this. It’s like encroaching on someone’s property, then asking for an obscene amount of money to get off it. We have been politely requesting Nandy for the title for a very long time and have even consulted lawyers on the matter. We’ve been told that no one can hoard a title. But to get a censor certificate, the producers’ association has to register the title which makes the law contradictory."
Coming to the lead actresses, Taapsee will next star in Mission Mangal, Badla and Tadka while Bhumi has Takht, Dolly, Kitty Aur Woh Chamakte Sitaare, Sonchiriya and Pati Patni Aur Woh remake in her kitty.
