Popular filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has decided to exit Twitter after his daughter received multiple online threats and as a parent, he had to answer unending calls. He cited the same threats to his family as the reason behind his decision to delete his social media account and is clearly upset with the new India who has chosen thuggery over a rational discussion. He was among the 49 celebrities who recently signed a petition to PM Narendra Modi, asking him to take a firm stand against the rising crime rate in our country.

And it was only after he signed this petition that he has been receiving these constant threats and even his daughter is not spared. "When your parents start to get calls and your daughter gets online threats then you know no one wants to talk. There is going to be no reason or rationale. Thugs will rule and thuggery will be the new way of life. Congratulations everyone on this new India and hope you thrive," Kashyap wrote in what was among his last two tweets.

This is not the first time when Anurag has tried to raise his voice against the online bullies who targeted his daughter. Earlier when PM Narendra Modi was re-elected in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the director had requested Mumbai Police to take action against a certain Twitter account user who threatened his daughter.

When Firstpost tried to get in touch with the director to confirm this shocking and sad news, he said, "When threats go beyond the online [world] and reach your family, it's time to call it off. I wish the best to this country and people, and everyone celebrating this new India. Unko mubarak ho. I will go be an ostrich and bury my head in the sand and do my work." Clearly, the filmmaker has lost all his hopes on our new India and we wonder if more celebrities will follow his suit.
