Anu Aggarwal, who first captured audiences' hearts with her role in Mahesh Bhatt’s Aashiqui, surprised many with her bold choice in the 1994 Indo-German erotic short film The Cloud Door. Directed by Mani Kaul, the film later premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and garnered acclaim at several international film festivals, including those in India, Munich, Locarno, and New York. However, the topless scene that Anu performed was not initially part of the script. She was taken aback when asked to perform a topless scene in The Cloud Door, as this was not part of the original script. In a recent interview with Bollywood Bubble, the actress revealed her shock upon being asked to participate in the scene. She recounted, "When I first read the script, this scene was not included. When Mani Kaul requested it during filming, I was taken aback and said no. My concern was not about performing the scene itself, but rather the lack of prior notice. It felt unethical that this wasn't disclosed when I was first offered the role."  "While we were shooting, the entire 30-day shoot was almost complete. On the 29th day or so, he came and told me about this scene, saying it would be a night shoot. I was shocked. I asked, ‘What do you mean?’ I told him, ‘This wasn’t in the script. Based on that, I won’t do it.’ It’s not that I couldn’t do it, but I chose not to," she explained.

Anu admitted to second-guessing her decision after the shoot, reflecting on whether her refusal was justified. Despite her initial discomfort, she ultimately agreed to the scene, guided by the support of her family, particularly her mother. She noted, "Being topless is not a big deal in comparison to the violence often depicted in films. I accepted it as a challenge, even though it made me sad to see the lack of transparency in the process." Anu remarked that while being topless in public is not a common occurrence for most people, she saw it as an opportunity to do something unconventional in her acting career. She admitted that although she felt disheartened by the way the situation unfolded—highlighting a lack of ethics in how the scene was introduced—she chose to view it as a challenge. With strong support from her family, especially her mother, Anu embraced the role.
