Anti-CAA Protests: Parineeti Chopra Takes a Bold Stand, Says 'Forget CAB We Need to Pass a Bill to Not Call Our Country a Democracy Anymore'
As anti-CAA protests take place across universities in India, a few Bollywood celebrities have finally spoken up about the Jamia Millia Islamia University protests turning violent after the police action. Here's whar actress Parineeti Chopra had to say.
Students in large numbers took to the streets on Sunday, December 15 in Delhi and other cities to protest against CAA - Citizenship Amendment Act. After Delhi Police took action against the students of Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi, social media was abuzz with reactions to the Police using batons and teargas to disperse the crowds. Netizens expressed their anger over peaceful protests being turned violent and against police action and came in support of the students. While Bollywood stars are known to maintain their silence when it comes to expressing political views or calling out the government, this time several actors including the likes of Rajkummar Rao, Ayushmann Khurrana, Riteish Deshmukh among others used social media to condemn the use of violence in the anti-CAA protests.
Even as A-lister actresses such as Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra and others are yet to comment on the issue, actress Parineeti Chopra has been among the first ones to take a stand and boldly expressed her views on Twitter. Parineeti wasn't hesitant about pointing out how CAB has been an issue and didn't merely focus on student protests. She wrote, "If this is what’s gonna happen every time a citizen expresses their view, forget #CAB, we should pass a bill and not call our country a democracy anymore! Beating up innocent human beings for speaking their mind? BARBARIC."
