Several students from Aligarh Muslim university protested against the amended Citizenship Act on Sunday, December 15. Although, the protests took a violent turn when police used batons and teargas to disperse them. In Delhi, hundreds gathered outside Police headquarters in response to a call from the students of Jawaharlal Nehru University. Social media was filled with videos from the student protests and reacting to the same several Bollywood celebrities took to Twitter to react to the same. Actors such as Swara Bhasker and Richa Chaddha had earlier too reacted to the Citizenship Amendment Bill Act and have now come in support of students who were protesting in Delhi.
As per reports, it all started on Sunday evening after a protest march by the Jamia students ended up in a violent tiff with the police. The protests resulted in vandalism and torching of vehicles. The police, used batons and teargas to contain the violence, later barged into the university and detained around 100 students. While the majority of Bollywood's A-list starts have maintained their silence on this, a few filmmakers and actors expressed their disappointment over Delhi Police's actions.
