The Dussehra festivities in India were dampened with tragic news coming from Amritsar, Punjab. More than 50 people were killed when a train rammed into a crowd standing on the tracks, as they were watching the Dussehra festivities. A police cop present at the site told Reuters, “The people were sitting on and near the tracks on the outskirts of Amritsar watching the burning of effigies as part of the Dussehra festival when a commuter train ran over them." Condolences are pouring in from all over the country, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi and prominent politicians. Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, who is enroute to the site of accident, announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of deceased. Apart from the Punjab CM, Union MoS Railways, Manoj Sinha, has also left from Delhi and is expected to reach the Joda Phatak in Amritsar
