When they were at the peak of their popularity, especially in the last decade, Abhishek Bachchan and Rani Mukerji were considered one of the best onscreen jodis on the big screen. Together, they have worked in movies like Bas Itna Sa Khwab Hai, Yuva, Hum Tum, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Laga Chunari Mein Daag. The biggest hit of this jodi happens to be, of course, Bunty Aur Babli. Released in 2005, the movie also stars Amitabh Bachchan, while Abhishek's future wife Aishwarya Rai had a cameo in the popular Kajra Re song. Bunty Aur Babli was directed by Shaad Ali and was produced by YRF studios.

If you remember, Bunty Aur Babli ended with a promise of a sequel that never happened. Now, as per a report in PINKVILLA, there is a possibility that a sequel could be in the works. A source close to the production house told the portal, "Bunty Aur Babli sequel has been on cards for quite some time now. But it was only recently that the things were taken forward. Aditya Chopra himself is looking into this and the pre-production work has already started. Both Rani and Abhishek are more than keen to do this project and have given their nod for it. However, it won’t be directed by Shaad. Who is helming this sequel is still not revealed. But the plot has been finalised and the shoot schedule is being planned. If everything works out well, then the movie will tentatively go on-floors in November, this year."

However, when the portal contacted the studios, a spokesperson from YRF told them, "Bunty Aur Babli is one of Aditya Chopra’s favourite YRF film and he has always wanted to make a sequel to the much-loved movie. However, currently, there is no locked script or locked cast for the same.” The biggest takeaway from the statement is that they haven't rubbished the rumour straightaway.

Interestingly, Abhishek and Rani are at the stage of their careers, where they are very choosy with the projects they are taking. Rani had delivered a hit earlier this year in Hichki, and she hasn't confirmed her next yet. Abhishek, meanwhile, will be seen next in Anurag Kashyap's Manmarziyaan. He will also star along with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Gulab Jamun.
