After the enormous success that Aamir Khan’s Dangal and Secret Superstar received in China, Akshay Kumar is marching towards the country too. His film with Bhumi Pednekar, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha, will now release in China on June 8. However, the movie is called as ‘Toilet Hero’ in the adjacent country. 2018 saw a surprising growth of Bollywood fandom in China. TEKP is the fifth film of the year that hit the Chinese screens after the successful run of Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Hindi Medium, Baahubali 2 and Secret Superstar.

Akki’s social drama is based on the theme of Swacch Bharat Abhiyaan started by PM Narendra Modi. This theme is quite global and there are huge chances of the audience finding it relatable globally. The past films that have been released in the neighboring country have been majorly based on social issues and that did work wonders on the box office. Hence, it won’t be surprising if this romantic- social drama too manages to create the same magic.

Earlier, in an interview to HT, Aamir Khan told the valid reason of why we get bigger numbers at the Chinese box office. He was quoted saying, “When Dangal released in China, they already knew me and my work. Also, the reason why the films did such business in China is the sheer number of screens. In India, we have around 5,000 theatres, while in China there are 45,000”. Well, we hope that Akshay and Bhumi too experience the same love by the Chinese fans for their ‘Toilet Hero’!
