Akshay Kumar Responds To Gold's Comparison With Shah Rukh Khan's Chak De! India: Don't Compare It
Akshay Kumar justifies his role in Gold and addresses its comparison with Shah Rukh Khan's character in Chak De! India.
Ever since reports of Akshay Kumar playing a hockey coach in Reem Kagti's Gold surfaced, people have been comparing it to Shah Rukh Khan's character as the coach for the Indian women's national field hockey team in Chak De! India. Addressing the comparisons, Akshay has finally spoken up. He said, "Everything will be a competition. For me, it is all about doing a good film. Chak De! India was a different story, Gold is different. It is frivolous to even think like that or competing with that film. Don't compare it, it is all different."
Just as Akshay mentioned, his role as coach Tapan Das is rather controversial. "He is a controversial guy. He is a drunk and a cheater. But within a year, he brought 11 people together, made a team and went for the Olympics, won the gold medal. I felt this story was unbelievable and needed to be told," said the actor when explaining about his character. Chak De! India's story is influenced by the Indian women's national field hockey team's win at the 2002 Commonwealth Games.
Like every year, this Independence Day weekend has also been booked by Akshay as Gold will be releasing. The movie also stars TV actress Mouni Roy who will be making her Bollywood debut. Amit Sadh, Kunal Kapoor, Sunny Kaushal, Vineet Kumar Singh will also be essaying pertinent roles in the movie as players coached by Akshay.
Gold will be clashing with John Abraham's Satyamev Jayate at the box office as both the films have chosen the same weekend. It will be interesting to see friends John and Akshay face clash at the box office.
