After years of worth of controversy, it has all come down to this very moment. Akshay Kumar has finally clarified, once and for all, that he indeed holds a Canadian passport. The debate about the actor's Indian citizenship or lack of it, thereof, has been always been a heated one. After the actor did not cast his vote in the recent Lok Sabha Elections 2019, the question was once again open to the floor. So, Akshay took to his Twitter and answered, "I have never hidden or denied that I hold a Canadian passport," Irritated Akshay Kumar Walks Away When Asked About His Absence From the Polling Booth – Watch Video.

Akshay added, "It is also equally true that  I have not visited Canada in the last

seven years. I work in India, and pay all my taxes in India. While all these years, I have never needed to prove my love for India to anyone, I find it disappointing that my citizenship issue is constantly dragged into needless controversy, a matter that is personal, legal, non-political, and of no consequence to others," Lok Sabha Elections 2019: Twitterati Asks 'Did Akshay Kumar Vote?'.

Akshay said he doesn't understand the unwarranted interest and negativity about his citizenship. "Lastly, I would like to continue contributing in my small way to the causes that I believe in and make India stronger and stronger," he concluded.

Although, back in 2017, in an interview, Akshay had claimed that he is only an honorary citizen of Canada. In his interview to TV channel Times Now, he said, "About the Canadian thing, I am an honorary citizen. I’ve been given an honorary thing. I think it’s a thing that people should be proud about. I have an honorary doctorate also but I am not a Doctor. So this is what people have to understand."
