Akshay Kumar has currently been in the limelight not for usual reasons. It's not his films, this time the topic of discussion has been his Canadian Citizenship. With the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 taking place and the actor's recent non-political interview with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, fans started questioning about Akshay's citizenship, especially since he did not cast his vote. His absence from the polling booths led many to believe that him not being an 'Indian citizen' should be considered when conferring him with accolades such as a National Award. Recently, the actor's eligibility for winning a National Award was in the news after an uproar took place over social media. While director Rahul Dholakia came into the actor's support and tweeted the criteria that allow a person to be eligible for a National Award, now another actor has come in Akshay's support.
Akshay's Baby co-star, Anupam Kher took to Twitter sharing a note to the star, speaking about his nationality issue. He wrote, "Dear @akshaykumar! Have been reading about you explaining to certain people about your loyalty to our country. Stop it! Their real profession is to make people like you & me feel defensive for talking in favour of India. Dear @akshaykumar! Have been reading about you explaining to certain people about your loyalty to our country. Stop it! Their real profession is to make people like you & me feel defensive for talking in favour of India. You are a doer. You don’t need to explain to anybody.👏🇮🇳

In fact, not just Anupam Kher, Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs of India, had also tweeted a couple of days ago in support of the actor. He wrote, "Dear @akshaykumar ji, no one can question your patriotism. Your motivation to our Armed Forces personnel and the way you generated funds for our martyrs through #BharatKeVeer programme will remain an example for every patriotic Indian."
It all started after a video of Akshay Kumar went viral where he was asked about voting in this year's elections and the actor walked away. He later took to social media to clarify his Canadian citizenship and called the discussion over his citizenship as 'personal, legal and non-political'.
