Ajay Devgn has finally started the shoot for what could be his most ambitious film to date, Taanaji. Directed by Om Raut, the biopic is based on the life on the famous Maratha general Tanaji Malusare, who is instrumental in expanding the Maratha kingdom during Chatrapathi Shivaji's rule. Ajay Devgn had already shared a poster art for the film, when he had announced that he would play the lead in this very interesting period drama. Now the two-time National award-winning actor has confirmed that he has begun shooting for the film, as Ajay Devgn shared a picture of him in serious discussion with the director. Taanaji's release date also has been confirmed - it would be coming out on November 22, 2019. Interestingly, two weeks later, another historical war drama, Panipat, based on a real-life war is coming out. That movie stars Arjun Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Sanjay Dutt in the lead and is directed by Ashutosh Gowariker.

Talking more about Taanaji, expect the Battle of Sinhagad to play an integral part in the movie. Legend has it that Tanaji Malusare had left his son's wedding to help Shivaji Maharaj to capture to recapture Kondhana from the Mughals. In the ensuing battle, Tanaji lost his life but managed to win the fort for his king.
