The Indian Performing Rights Society lodged an FIR against Yash Raj Films alleging that the production house has pocketed Rs 100 crore in terms of royalties from music which rightfully belongs to the members of this society, as per a report in Mumbai Mirror. The FIR which was filed with Mumbai police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW), accuses YRF of stopping them from collecting royalties from Radio stations, telecom companies and music streaming sites. They apparently did so by making the artists get into illegal agreements, as per the report. Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar Delayed Not Because of Weather But Due to Aditya Chopra?

The daily also reports that the FIR named Aditya Chopra and Uday Chopra in it. It claimed that the production house is collecting royalties on behalf of music producers and artistes which is wrong as that right belongs to IPRS. The latter is a representative body of composers, music directors, lyricists and the publishers of music and it is the sole authority to issue licences for use of registered music in India.

A Police Officer told the daily, "The FIR has been registered under sections 409 (criminal breach of trust) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Copyright Act." FIR further alleges that YRF pocketed royalties from two broadcast platforms but was finding it difficult to collect the same from the radio stations, telecoms and streaming platforms.
