Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan starrer Kedarnath opened in theatres on December 7. The movie earned mixed reviews from the critics and has been loved by moviegoers. We don't get many disaster dramas here in India, so Kedarnath was a breath of fresh air. That is until many started pointing out the similarities between this one and James Cameron's Titanic. To begin with, the lead pair of both the movies are star-crossed lovers separated by class or caste. There is a disaster that gives their love story a jolt. But Abhishek opposes all cases of similarities.

The director was talking to a leading news agency when he said that there is nothing similar. Abhishek said, "If you ask me, 'Titanic' is a lot like a Bollywood film to some level. Other than the fact that there is a background and a love story upfront, there is nothing similar. 'Titanic' offers you so much more in terms of VFX and special effects. But 'Kedarnath' is not about VFX. VFX is there for you to just understand certain things, not marvel at. This is not that film. It is about you me, our country, our issues, our Hindu-Muslim divide, Shiva," Kedarnath Movie Review: The Real-Life Tragedy Takes a Backseat In Sushant Singh Rajput-Sara Ali Khan's 'Titanic' Inspired Love Story.

For all the beating that the movie received from movie critics, Abhishek shared his two cents. He said, They probably have seen my earlier films and are looking for that director who made those films. My attempt has just been the contrary. I prefer to disappear and re-invent myself. I want to be new a director every time. To have a signature that 'this is my film' is too egotistical for me... I think people haven't seen for what it is but seen it for what they think it should've been. Which I don't think is fair."

Kedarnath is set on the backdrop of the Kedarnath floods of 2013. On the other hand, Titanic is set on the backdrop of the sinking of RMS Titanic in 1912. Titanic starred Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in lead roles.
