Aamir Khan Asks for an Investigation Into Tanushree Dutta-Nana Patekar Case
Tanushree has claimed in a recent interview that she was sexually harassed by Nana Patekar on the sets of Horn Ok Please.
It was the trailer launch of the upcoming film, Thugs of Hindostan. And I don't know what was more underwhelming, the trailer itself or the response the cast of the film had to Tanushree Dutt-Nana Patekar controversy. We have already shared with you Bollywood's superstar Amitabh Bachchan's response to the controversy. Well, at least Aamir's reply has a silver lining. Aamir said, "Without knowing anything I cannot comment on this. But if something has happened, it is always sad and people should investigate."
In 2015, Aamir Khan was part of Women in the World summit in New York. The event was held in association with the New York Times. During the conversation, Aamir had said, that sexual assault survivor is often ill-treated by police and medical staff and does not get swift justice. "The balance of power in India needs to change. Unless conviction becomes swift and certain, things are not going to change in India. And very very importantly, as a society we have to shun the rapist and hold the survivor close," he had said.
Not to forget the first episode of the second season of his hit social-issues based show Satyameva Jayate talked about the state of rape victims in India. Sunny Deol’s Amusing Take On #MeToo Movement Is a Disservice to the Victims.
Asking for an investigation is the step forward for this industry in regards to the #MeToo movement. Tanushree, who bid adieu to Bollywood long time back, has claimed in a recent interview that she was sexually harassed by Nana Patekar on the sets of Horn Ok Please. She said, “People ask me why the #MeToo movement is not happening in India. That’s because when someone speaks up, they don’t get work. I spoke up 18 years ago; look what happened,” adding, “While Nana continued to work in films, I was slut-shamed and called unprofessional. When a woman speaks up, she is given different names and pulled down.”
