64th Filmfare Awards 2019 Complete Winners List: Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor Win Top Honours

Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor have more than one reason to celebrate tonight. Ranbir Kapoor has bagged the prize for Best Actor (Popular) for his performance in the film, Sanju. The movie has been directed by Rajkumar Hirani and is a biopic on controversial Bollywood actor, Sanjay Dutt. Ranbir's girlfriend Alia won the award for Best Actress for Raazi. What a talented couple. 

Alia Bhatt carried Raazi on her shoulders. It doesn't happen in India that a female-driven movie manages to become as popular as Raazi. Alia played the role of an Indian spy married to a Pakistani army officer in the patriotic-espionage thriller. This Raazi's 6th win tonight.

Ranveer Singh had to access very dark corners of his mind to play the role of Alauddin Khilji in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie, Padmaavat. The actor, reportedly, had to seek professional help to get out of the character completely. Certainly, he deserved a win for a role that he has put his heart and soul into. Ranveer Singh bagged the award for Best Actor (Critics) at 64th Filmfare Awards. Ranveer Singh shared the spot with another stellar performer. Ayushmann Khurrana also won the award for Best Actor (Critics) for his performance of a blind pianist in the movie, Andhadhun. 

In Badhaai Ho, Neena Gupta plays the role of a middle-aged woman who has an accidental pregnancy. The actress played the character to perfection and managed to make everyone who watched Badhaai Ho cry. The movie also led Gajraj Rao to win a Best Supporting Actor award. 

It is interesting as Meghna Gulzar actually started her career as a freelance writer for Times of India. Today, she won the award for Best Director (Popular) from Filmfare, a Times group magazine. Meghna made the superhit Raazi in 2018, and it was loved by the critics and audience alike. Praise came in especially for the fact that there was no chest-thumping jingoism in the film.

And Meghna Gulzar's Raazi has bagged another award. The movie, featuring Alia Bhatt, has earned a win in the Best Film (Popular) category. The movie told the story of an Indian girl who gets married into a Pakistani family to spy on them as the men work in the Pakistani military. The story is based on the book, Calling Sahmat, which is based on a real-life story. 

Sriram Raghavan had made plans to make Andhadhun before he made Varun Dhawan starrer Badlapur. At the 64th Filmfare Awards, Andhadhun bagged the award for Best Film Critics' Choice. This is Andhadhun's second win tonight. The movie featured Ayushmann Khurrana and Tabu in lead roles.

Surekha Sikri at the age of 74 years, has won her first ever Filmfare Award. The actress played the role of nagging but very supportive when needed matriarch in the movie, Badhaai Ho. She impressed the critics and the fans alike with her performance where she showed shades of humour and sternness. 

Vicky Kaushal emerged as a superstar in the year 2018. His supporting role in the film, Sanju, was one of the reasons. his performance in the film was talked about as much as main lead, Ranbir Kapoor's performance. Vicky has won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Role Male for Sanju. Funny how Vicky was not even nominated in the Best Debut category at Filmfare Awards 2016 when Masaan had released. Vicky shares the award with Gajraj Rao. The aged actor gave a stellar performance in the family comedy, Badhaai Ho. This is Gajraj's first Filmfare win.
