26 Years Of Baazigar: Salman Khan Rejected This Shah Rukh Khan Starrer For 'Maa'
In an old interview, Salman Khan explains the reason why he refused Baazigar and it involves Maa. Everyone had issues with the negative shades in the character including Armaan Kholi. Shah Rukh Khan would be glad!
Shah Rukh Khan debuted with Deewana but it was Baazigar that made him exceedingly famous. It even made the character of anti-hero much sought after. He was a stalker villain in Darr but Baazigar had shades of grey as he wasn't completely a bad person. It has been 26 years since that happened. The role exchanged many hands and ultimately landed on SRK's lap. It was offered to Armaan Kohli and Salman Khan as well. Kohli apparently wasn't kicked about it because of the negative shades in it. As for Salman, he was game but he wanted a few inclusions to make it less negative. In an old interview to Indian Express, Salman explained the reason saying, "I had refused Baazigar. When Abbas Mustan came to me with the script, I asked my dad for his inputs. He felt that since it's a story of a negative character they should add an angle of the mother in it. They didn't agree. When I said no to the film, they went to Shah Rukh and then they added the mother angle! (Laughs) But I don't regret it at all. Just imagine, if I had done Baazigar then there would be no Mannat standing in Bandstand today. I'm very happy for Shah Rukh and his success."
Honestly, we are glad too that Salman let this film go and SRK grabbed it. Today, we can't imagine how it would have been if Salman had said yes to the project that's because no one gets the bad right so well like SRK.
So, Thank You Salman Khan!
