Amitabh Bachchan’s Daughter Shweta Nanda Speaks Up About Plagiarism Allegations and Nepotism: You’ve to Just Grow a Thick Skin

Diet Sabya had called out Shweta Bachchan and her designer partner Monisha Jaising for stealing a sweatshirt design recently and Amitabh Bachchan's daughter has now reacted to it.

Shweta Nanda recently launched her clothing brand along with designer Monisha Jaising. The event was a starry affair, but on the launch day Amitabh Bachchan’s was accused of plagiarism by a fashion vigilante Instagram handle Diet Sabya. According to fashion conscious Diet Sabya, a sweatshirt by MxS was actually copied from another brand. Finally after almost a month we have Shweta Nanda’s reaction to these allegations.

During a recent interview, Shweta defended her design, she said: “I think it’s a very generic motif and it’s a very generic slogan. And of course creative people can have similar ideas at the same time. And if you go do your research and you go look at which we did, it’s a generic design it’s not like one sweatshirt like that. Anyway it’s done and dusted. By the way just wanna tell you it’s our largest seller. We’re sold out on it, ironically.”

When quizzed about being media shy and facing an awkward situation like plagiarism accusations, Shweta said, “You know, you’ve to just grow a thick skin. And you know what you’re doing you’re doing with integrity. So you’ve to just let it go, I don’t have a thick skin, I’m trying to develop it. These things bother me a lot, but I guess I will learn. I have no choice.”

Shweta continued, “Yeah your initial reaction is to go into your shell, but then I mean how long can you stay there? There’s no growth if you’re in your shell.”

Here’s a look at Diet Sabya’s post about the copied design...

And this is another post shared by Shweta’s brand where Big B’s daughter is seen sporting the same sweatshirt.

We let you decide, if indeed this is a common design or then a bad rip off of a cool design.

The writer-designer also talked about nepotism and said, “Well, I know very well that where I am, I am today because of the name I have. It’s something I’m very well aware of. But henceforth what I do is all on my own. My father hasn’t written my book, they haven’t helped with designing. They’re supportive as any parents would be, but it’s for me to sink or swim. So it only takes you this far and then it’s only your talent or lack of talent that kicks in.” Also read: Abhishek Bachchan Avoids Ex Karisma Kapoor at Shweta Nanda’s Store Launch?
