The first trailer of the upcoming YRF adventure, Thugs of Hindostan, released today. At the grand trailer launch of the principal cast of the film - Aamir Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Katrina Kaif - were present. With such a powerful turnout you'd expect the influencers to talk about some critical issues apart from the trailer. But when has industry actually come together to condemn one of their own? When asked to weigh in on the heated subject of Tanushree Dutta's claims of sexual harassment suffered by Nana Patekar, the Amitabh Bachchan decided to stay quiet. He only said, "Nor is my name #TanushreeDutta nor #NanaPatekar, so I can't comment." Ganesh Acharya Supports Nana Patekar; Alleges Tanushree Dutta Has Been Lying About The Whole 2008 Scandal.
BTW, Amitabh, once, was the face of the campaign urging people to support the victims of sexual harassment. In April 2017, when Star Plus, launched their show Kya Qusoor Hai Amala Ka - in which the lead character was a rape survivor - Amitabh was asked to star in a promo. “We need to foster a safe, secure and supportive environment where victims can seek refuge especially from those who they turn to for protection like authority figures, family and society,” Amitabh said in a statement. This will not be the first time Amitabh has refused to comment on an issue as grave as sexual assault. Earlier at a press conference to promote one of his films, Amitabh was asked about the Unnao and Kathua rape cases. He had then said, "Even discussing this issue feels disgusting, don't bring up this issue. It is terrible to even talk about it."
While we totally get it that it is a person's discretion and choice to whether comment on a topic or not. But until and unless the industry folks start talking about what's happening within the industry, how are things ever going to change? The least that could have been said is to demand a fair investigation. Being an influencer means having a power. And with every power comes a great responsibility.
