Sidharth Malhotra is going through a real bad phase at the box office and he really needs to do something about it. His latest release, the much talked about spy thriller, Aiyaary was supposed to be a deal breaker for him. After all, it was directed by Neeraj Pandey who has delivered hits in movies like A Wednesday, Special 26, Baby and his last movie, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story. However, though Pandey had a lucky streak with now estranged friend Akshay Kumar, he could not replicate the same with Akshay's Brothers co-star Sidharth Malhotra.
As of now, Aiyaary is struggling to make a mark at the box office, bowing down to the might of Black Panther that released along with it, as well as poor reviews. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh had tweeted out the latest figures which are not at all favourable for the spy thriller. The movie has collected only Rs 11.70 crore in India over its opening weekend (compared to Black Panther's Rs 19.35 crore nett collections). This, as Taran pointed, is also lower than the opening weekend collections of his other two recent movies, A Gentleman and Ittefaq.
Here's Taran Adarsh's tweet on Aiyaary's latest box office collections,
#Aiyaary fell flat on Sun... Growth in biz was missing... Weekend biz is lower than #AGentleman [₹ 13.13 cr] and #Ittefaq [₹ 16.05 cr]... Overall, lacklustre... Fri 3.36 cr, Sat 4.04 cr, Sun 4.30 cr. Total: ₹ 11.70 cr. India biz.

It is not that box office is generally being cruel to Aiyaary, or in fact even Akshay Kumar's PadMan, which is struggling to enter the Rs 100 crore club, and might not even make it. Padmaavat is still having a great run at the box office, earning a little more than Rs 8 crore in its fourth weekend with its total collections being Rs 276 crore.
We do like to imagine what would have happened if Padmaavat, PadMan and Aiyaary were to clash at the box office during the Republic Day weekend, as it was originally scheduled to happen.
Talking more about Aiyaary, the movie also stars Manoj Bajpayee in the lead, with Rakul Preet, Kumud Mishra, Anupam Kher, Vikram Gokhale, Adil Hussain, Pooja Chopra and Naseeruddin Shah in the cast as well.
