About Indian National Congress
The Indian National Congress is the oldest political party of India and was founded in December 1885. The political party was founded by retired British officer AO Hume. After 1920, Congress played a key role in India's Independence movement under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi. Post-Independence in 1947, Congress became the first ruling party of India. Currently, in the Opposition, the Congress is headed by its president Rahul Gandhi and has 49 seats in the Lok Sabha and 50 in the Rajya Sabha. The party also has governments in four states.
