The BJP has been trounced in the 2018 Chhattisgarh assembly elections. The BJP not only lost the state but also gave the Congress a shot in the arm as it suffered a massive defeat, ending up with just 16 seats. The Congress is said to be winning on 68 seats in the 90 seat Chhattisgarh, leaving 6 seats to others. The Election Commission will make the official announcement in short while.

Bhupesh Baghel, Chhattisgarh Congress President, speaking to reporters post positive trends for Congress in Chhattisgarh said that, "This is a victory of democracy. BJP had a lot of money and a team of corrupt officers, they also had conspirators in their pocket. Despite all of this, the mandate given by the people in Chhattisgarh is historic."

Dr Raman Singh, speaking after BJP's loss after 15 years in Chhattisgarh, said that "The election was conducted under my guidance, hence I accept the responsibility for the defeat in this assembly elections." Raman Singh said that he has resigned from his post of Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and submitted it to the Governor of the state.

Talking about the election failure, Dr Singh said that the was accepting complete responsibility but not before pointing out that the BJP had won three back-to-back assembly elections under under his guidance.
