Mumbai, September 7: Central government employees who are eagerly awaiting the Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) hike under the 7th Pay Commission might receive some good news soon. According to reports, the Central Government will soon take a decision on the DA and DR hike under the 7th Pay Commission recommendation during the Union Cabinet meeting led by PM Narendra Modi.

As per the 7th Pay Commission recommendations, the DA and DR hike of central government employees is increased twice every year. First in January and the second time in July. While the Dearness Allowance (DA) is given to government employees, the Dearness Relief (DR) is given to pensioners. The Centre increases the DA and DR hike on the recommendations of the 7th Pay Commission and usually it depends on the AICPI index for the previous six months.

As per reports, the Centre is likely to increase the DA by 4 percent. At present, the central government employees are receiving a DA of 34 percent which was hiked by 3 percent in March 2022. Earlier, the government employees were receiving a DA of 31 percent under the 7th Pay Commission recommendations. More importantly, the increase in DA and DR should come soon as the government recently released the latest AICPI Index data. The 7th Pay Commission recommends the DA and DR hike based on the AICPI Index data. The Index of retail inflation for industrial workers increased by 0.7 points in July 2022 and stood at 129.9 points. While the AICPI Index data was 129.2 points in June 2022.
