Volvo, a popular Swedish car maker is gearing up to launch the new XC40 compact SUV in the Indian market soon. As per the report from Cartoq, it is believed that the car maker might launch the new Volvo XC40 SUV in the domestic market next month probably in the month of June. The compact SUV will be pitted against the likes of Mercedes-Benz GLA, BMW X1 and Audi Q3 SUV. Volvo has been impressing the consumers with its excellent design evolving philosophy over the last decade by introducing products such as XC90 and S90 that have set benchmarks in their respective segments. On the exterior front, the new XC40 SUV will borrow design elements and styling statement from its elder siblings – XC60 and XC90. The new compact SUV will also feature Thor hammer headlights along with massive grille upfront. The rear section of the SUV is also expected to be inspired from the siblings with boomerang styled tail lights. The side profile of the SUV is likely to sport 18-inch wheels, raised height and short overhangs and more. It is also believed that the company might introduce R design trim which will carry bigger wheels and contrasting roof.
On the mechanical front, the upcoming XC40 is expected to be offered with a choice of diesel and petrol engines. The former will be a 2.0-litre diesel capable of churning out 190 bhp of max power while the latter will be a 2.0-litre T5 petrol unit tuned to generate maximum power of 247 bhp. To be introduced into the Indian market as a CBU unit, the new XC40 will be based on the CMA platform which is expected to attract buyers with a starting price of Rs. 35 lakh. If launched at this price point, the new Volvo XC40 will be slightly expensive than its competitors like BMW X1, Audi Q3 and others.
