Mumbai, June 3: Volkswagen India on Monday announced that all the variants of the Taigun SUV and the Virtus mid-size sedan will now come equipped with 6-airbags as standard fitment. Both cars are based on the VW’s MQB-A0-IN platform and have been awarded 5-star GNCAP safety ratings for adult and child occupants. Apart from 6 airbags, both cars get standard features such as ESC, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, seat belt reminder and pre-tensioners with load limiters. The German automaker also announced that the Virtus SUV has contributed over 61 per cent of sales, resulting in one lakh plus India 2.0 car sales milestone. Around 40 per cent of the customers have chosen the GT variants for Taigun and Virtus. Also, the brand has recently introduced two new variants on the Taigun SUV - GT Line based on the 1.0-litre TSI and GT Plus Sport 1.5-litre TSI.
Mechanically, both VW Taigun and VW Virtus are available with a choice of 1.0L TSI 114 bhp and 1.5L TSI EVO 147.51 bhp engine options. The former comes paired with a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission, while the latter gets a 6-speed manual gearbox or 7-speed DSG automatic transmission. The price for the Volkswagen Virtus starts from Rs. 11.56 lakh, going up to Rs. 19.15 lakh (ex-showroom). The Taigun SUV, on the other hand, is priced between Rs. 11.70 lakh and Rs. 18.70 lakh (ex-showroom).
