Tata Motors, a homegrown auto manufacturing company will be launching the much awaited Tata Harrier SUV in India early next year. Codenamed as H5X Concept, the company unveiled the upcoming SUV at the Auto Expo 2018 alongside Tata 45X premium hatchback. The new Tata Harrier SUV will be offered in two seating layouts - five-seaters and seven-seaters, wherein the former will go on sale by early next year whereas the latter could be launched later next year or early 2020. To be built on Tata's Omega-Arc (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced Architecture) that is based on the Land Rover D8 platform. This SUV will be the first product from the carmaker that will carry the OMEGA platform that is jointly developed with JLR, which is derived from Rover D8 architecture. The same platform is used on the cars like Jaguar I-Pace, Land Rover Discovery Sport, Range Rover Evoque, etc. For Tata, the materials used will be locally made, thereby keeping costs in check. Under the hood, the new Tata Harrier is expected to sport a 2.0-litre Fiat Multijet turbocharged diesel engine. The oil burner will be tuned to make 140 Bhp of max power with peak torque of 320Nm and will be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox transmitting the power to the front wheel. It is also rumoured that the company might roll out the all-wheel drive layout. Moreover, a 6-speed torque converter automatic unit from Hyundai is also expected to be offered on the new Harrier. Moreover, the OMEGA platform will feature high tensile steel bits for keeping the prices low and making it affordable enough for the mass market. The platform underlines good bits such as top-drawer suspension design, chassis rigidness, steering response and several other key attributes have been retained from the OMEGA platform underpinned for best-in-class performance. Likely to be positioned above Tata Hexa, the new Tata Harrier will be a flagship offering from Tata Motors. As far as the rates are concerned, the new Tata Harrier will be priced from Rs 13 lakh (Ex-showroom), making it cheaper than Jeep Compass. Also, it will be similarly priced to Hyundai Creta.
