Tata Motors is all set to launch the Altroz premium hatchback in India on January 22, 2020. Ahead of its India launch, the premium hatchback has managed to secure five-star safety ratings in the global NCAP crash test. It is important to note that the hatchback is the second model from Tata Motors to score 5-star ratings in Global NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) after Tata Nexon sub-compact SUV. With 5-star safety ratings for Altroz, the hatchback can be called as the safest hatchback in the country. As far as the Global NCAP rating is concerned, the hatchback scored 16.13 out of 17 for adult occupant protection whereas it managed to get 29 out of 49 points for the child occupant. Notably, the hatchback achieved 3-star rating for child occupant protection. It is important to note that the hatchback is part of NCAP's Safer Cars for India programme. And, the car tested was the India-made right-hand-drive (RHD) model.

Feature-wise, the Tata Altroz hatchback comes equipped with standard features like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, selt belt reminder, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX child mounts. The test result of Global NCAP clearly mentions that the structure of the car and it foot well area remained stable with protection at neck and head areas for adult occupant was good. However, it also mentioned that the chest and calf protection for adult occupants was just adequate.
When launched, the hatchback will be seen in both petrol and diesel avatars. Both the units will be BS6 compliant. The petrol unit will be a 1.2-litre Revotron and the diesel engine will be a 1.5-litre Revotorq unit. Both the engines will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox as standard.
