Ministry of Road Transport & Highways on Friday issued a new notification mentioning that all battery operated vehicles in the country must carry green number plates displaying registration numbers. Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said in a statement that "All battery-operated vehicles shall now exhibit their registration mark in yellow colour on green background for transport vehicles and all other cases, in white colour on the green background." A notification to this effect was issued on Friday, and the same has been notified to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989. Moreover, the body had invited objections as well as suggestions from the public regarding the same in May last.
Road Transport and Highway Minister - Nitin Gadkari earlier said that the purpose behind the introduction of these distinctive number plates for easy identification of vehicles during preferential treatment in parking, free entry in congested zones, concessional toll and more.
