Suzuki, a popular auto manufacturing company will be launching the new generation Suzuki Jimny mini-SUV in Japan on July 5. With the launch slated for next month, details have been leaked ahead of its official debut. According to the Suzuki dealership in Japan, the company will be introducing two new products which could be all-new Jimny and Jimny Sierra SUVs. The company has already initiated the production as well as promotional activities for the SUV. Previously, patents as well as presentation images were leaked online revealing a design similar to Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen.
The current model has been in the global market for two decades that was introduced as a replacement to Gypsy which is presently on sale in the domestic market. Talking about the design, the new generation Jimny will sport complete overhaul along with features yet retaining its true SUV capability. With a neo-retro look, the SUV now gets an upright front grille along with circular headlamps and an angular boxy design.
Taking the new updates into consideration, the fourth generation SUV will come with projector lights, LED DRL and LED tail lights. The SUV has been captured previously in the past as a 3-door version with a hard-top version. However, it is also expected that soft-top and open-top versions could also be introduced alongside the hard-top. The SUV will continue to employ the same ladder-on-frame chassis.
On the inside, the next generation Jimny SUV will sport similar details as that of all-new Swift hatchback. It is also expected to borrow same steering wheel, touchscreen infotainment system, auto climate control, power window switches and other features.
As far as the engine specifications are concerned, the new generation Suzuki Jimny is expected to be powered by a 0.66-litre L R06A petrol motor. The car is expected to qualify as a Kei car for availing tax benefits in Japan. In other markets, the Jimny is expected to come with a 1.2-litre petrol and the 1.0-litre Boosterjet turbo engine options. Transmission duties are likely to be carried out by a 5-speed manual and an automatic version with Suzuki's AllGrip 4x4 drivetrain system.
The new generation Jimny SUV will be made available for sale in the Japanese market later this year, however, the sales across all the markets are expected to begin by next year. Coming to the Indian market, the domestic market never saw the arrival of third generation Jimny, however, the new generation is expected to hit out market. Yet, there are no official confirmation on the same. If launched, the SUV will compete against Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha.
